Omega Underground has confirmed via local sources that filming on Spider-Man spin-off Silver and Black will indeed take place next year in Atlanta, Georgia. There had been a bit of worry on our part that production had stalled when development on the film went quiet.
We revealed it recently entered pre-production as Marvel hired MCU alumni Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter and Sheena Duggal (Venom, Doctor Strange, Agent Carter, Miss Bala) as the visual effects supervisor.
The superhero film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Cloak and Dagger, Love and Basketball), who will also co-write the script previously worked on by Lisa Joy (Westworld) and Christopher Yost (Thor: Ragnarok, Star Wars: Rebels). The movie will center on cat burglar Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat and mercenary Silver Sable.
There is an expectation that the spin-off will begin filming once Venom wraps production in February but we haven’t uncovered a production start date. Spider-Man 2 is on track to begin filming starting in June, which gives the impression Silver will wrap around that time.
This means that casting announcements on the film will begin shortly.
We have our own speculation that Miss Bala actress Gina Rodriguez might be in Sony’s crosshairs for a lead role.
The next spin-off will be a film based on vampiric Spidey villain turned hero Doctor Michael Morbius aka Morbius The Living Vampire. Sony has Power Rangers screenwriters Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama working on it.
Depending on the development process and the studio finding a director for Morbius, it could be ready for production once Spider-Man 2 wraps.
Sony has slated the Silver and Black for release on February 8th, 2019.
