Star Trek: Discovery Finds its Lead

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that CBS has found a lead to play the commanding officer in their new series  Star Trek: Discovery.

It’s being reported that actress Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast as the lead on the CBS All-Access series. Martin-Green is currently playing Sasha Williams on The Walking Dead. Her previous credits include Tamara on Once Upon a Time and Courtney Wells on The Good Wife. The actress’ character name has not been revealed, but she will be playing the Commanding officer of the ship with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Martin-Green will be the first African-American woman to lead the cast of a Star Trek series. She is also expected to continue her role on The Walking Dead.

Sonequa Martin-Green will join Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Rapp and Shazad Latif, who was recently cast as Klingon officer Kol. Star Trek: Discovery will premiere in May.
