Four interconnected stories highlight the crazy world of Jimmy Olsen including his family history and its connection to Metropolis.
In “It’s the Fall That’ll Kill Ya”, an ancestor of Jimmy Olsen proves that the Olsen clan is equal parts tenacious and foolish as arguing with anyone on the side of a cliff is never a god idea.
“The Pal Who Fell To Earth” sees the photographer and thrill seeker fulfilling a charity request to have him leap from low orbit without a parachute. A mishap with an injection of mutant DNA makes the jump a lot more difficult as Jimmy heads back to Earth the hard way forcing Superman to intervene.
In “Force Mineur”, Jimmy Olsen’s stunts prompt Perry to fire him because of how much he’s costing the Daily Planet in insurance premiums. When Jimmy’s stunts bring in viewers to the paper and their new digital platform, Perry sees a way to keep Jimmy around.
“New In Town” will see Jimmy Olsen dealing with the consequences of his actions as he finds himself embedded far away from Metropolis in the most unforgiving city in the country.
This entire issue was just pure fun from start to finish. Matt Fraction delivers a story filled with humor and great characters. The dialogue is fun and funny and some of the best moments are the ones that enforce what Jimmy is to the people around him. A really fun read.
Steve Lieber complements the tone and style of this story with some impressive and fun art.
