‘The Eternals’ Will Have the First Openly Gay Male Lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Mar 1, 2019

According to That Hashtag Show, Marvel Studios are looking to cast an openly gay male actor for a lead role in ‘The Eternals.’

For this lead role, the studio is searching for an actor, 30-49, who “physically looks like a superhero.” While Marvel Studios is open to actors of all ethnicity, they would prefer the role to go to an openly gay actor.

This role will mark the first time Marvel Studios will feature an openly gay male as a lead. This character will have a major presence in the film alongside the other leads: Sersi, Ikaris and “Piper.” At the moment, the identity of the role will be kept in secrecy.

Chloé Zhao (‘The Rider’) will be directing, while the screenplay is from Matthew K. Firpo & Ryan Firpo (‘Ruin’).

Moreover, for a different role, Zhao has interest in casting Cameron Britton (‘Mindhunter,’ ‘The Umbrella Academy’). Additionally, Tomasz Kot (‘Cold War’) could nab a supporting role in the film, one that requires an imposing physical presence. However, no offers have been made to either of these actors as of now.

Further, filming will begin in the United Kingdom on September 9, and wrap sometime in January 2020.

There is currently no release date yet, but it will most likely claim the November 6, 2020 slot.
