‘The Old Guard’ Will Be Distributed By Netflix; Charlize Theron & KiKi Layne Are Still Onboard

After a multitude of filming delays, Netflix’s content crusade arrives to distribute Gina Prince-Bythewood’s ‘The Old Guard.’ We at Omega Underground made the report on Prince-Bythewood directing last July.

The female ensemble action movie is based on the comic books by Greg Rucka, who wrote the screenplay. Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne are still onboard the project.

Theron’s action career is stacking up. She’s had ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ ‘The Fate of the Furious,’ and ‘Atomic Blonde.’ Now, she has ‘The Old Guard.’ Moreover, she will next be seen in Lionsgate’s ‘Long Shot.’ In that film, she co-stars with Seth Rogen, and it releases May 3. Also, she plays Megyn Kelly in Jay Roach’s untitled Roger Ailes drama.

Layne was recently in last year’s ‘If Beale Street Could Talk.’ The Barry Jenkins film has three Academy Award nominations. Additionally, she is in Rupert Wyatt’s ‘Captive State,’ releasing March 15.

The premise is below:

“The story of a small covert group of immortal mercenaries who must fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed.”

Prince-Bythewood recently directed the pilot of the Marvel series ‘Cloak & Dagger.’ Her past films include ‘The Secret Life of Bees’ and ‘Beyond The Lights.’ She will also direct and co-write (with Roxane Gay) Fox Searchlight’s ‘An Untamed State.’

Further, thanks to HN Entertainment, we know production designer Paul Kirby is part of the crew. Kirby’s credits include ‘Captain Phillips,’ ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service,’ ‘Jason Bourne,’ Death Wish,’ and the upcoming ‘Hellboy.’

However, there is currently no release date.
