To be completely honest I am still a little in shock that we will soon be seeing the Power Rangers return to the big screen in upcoming blockbuster remake. And while we do already have a cast of Power Rangers whom are mostly unknowns, I was still doubtful that we would every see the teen superheros grace movie theaters once again. But thanks to some new casting new from The Hollywood Report, I have a little bit more faith in the reboot actually happening.

The site reports that actress Elizabeth Banks has been cast as the villainous Rita Repulsa. This casting is not only surprising but inspired as the character is about as over the top as you can get when it comes to a villain. This casting also brings some much needed star power to the film as that is one thing the reboot is considerably lacking so far.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Power Rangers or their villains, Rita Repula is their primary baddie, an evil space faring witch who only bows to her master Lord Zedd. Her goal as is most intergalactic villains, its to conquer the Earth and of course defeat the power rangers. Rita, being your typical witch uses a variety of incantations and spells to subdue her enemies and bring to life her monstrous creations.

Elizabeth Banks, definietly isn’t afraid to take on a part that will allow her to chew the scenary as evident in her role in The Hunger Games. She also has the chops to not only make the character menacing but funny as well, because as we all remember Power Rangers is a light hearted romp at its core. All in all I really think they nailed the casting on this one and I can’t wait to see Elizabeth Banks dawn the Repulsa head dress and that ridiculous Madonna-eque cone bra.

Power Rangers will star Elizabeth Banks, Naomi Scott, Rj Cyler, Becky G., Draace Montgomery, Ludi Lin, and is schedule to hit thearters on March 254, 2017!
