The Simpsons are Primed to make Television History

Nov 4, 2016

Long running series The Simpsons recently celebrated their 600th episode and if that weren’t historic enough, they are primed to make another milestone. Fox has renewed the comedy, featuring the antics of Homer, Marge, Bart and the rest of the citizens of Springfield, for its 29th and 30th seasons. This milestone will allow The Simpsons to surpass Gunsmoke as the longest running scripted television series ever. (Gunsmoke holds the record currently with 635 episodes. The Simpsons will reach 669 episodes at the end of its 30th season.)

The Simpsons premiered in 1990 and has racked up an impressive 32 Emmy’s in its run and was the first animated series to win a Peabody Award. The Simpsons continues to attract a steady viewership and its annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode this year had almost 10 million viewers. The series remains the benchmark for primetime animated series and I look forward to the next two seasons.
