THE WITCHER: SEASON 3 START OF PRODUCTION

Apr 6, 2022

The Witcher

Netflix announced earlier in the week that the family is back together, can we really call it a family? Possibly, although it has a rather weird dynamic, which most families have the pleasure of being. They (Netflix) shared the start of production with a behind-the-scenes photo. Have a look below.

So from what we can see, and what we have already possibly known for quite some time is that Henry Cavill is back as the one the only Geralt of Rivia, or my preferred description “ The Butcher of Blaviken”. Also visible in the photo is Freya Allan better known as Princess Cirilla “Ciri” of Cintra and the deliciously wicked Anya Chalotra as you might know as the seductive Yennefer of Vengerberg. Further what we can surmise from the picture above is winter, yes I know you have eyes.

What to expect from the 3rd season

Well, Netflix was kind enough to provide some insight on what to expect for the upcoming season. “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”

So from the synopsis, it seems that we might be in for magic lessons. Possibly getting a better understanding of how magick works in the world of The Witcher. Also, sounds like we are going to get into what Ciri`s true power is and a deeper understanding of her Elder Blood. So, we might get a Ciri centric 3rd season. This is my take from the synopsis.

When will it be released?

There is no specific release date yet, but season 1 and season 2 had December release dates. Although season 1 was released back in 2019 and season 2 only came out in 2021. However, we need to take into consideration that season 2 was pushed back due to Covid restriction and many of those restriction has been lifted. So speculating a December 2022 release date might not be a stretch of the imagination. But fear not should you like me have withdrawal symptoms, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. With the announcement of a kid-friendly animated series and another animated film after the success of Nightmare of the Wolf. We certainly have more than enough to look forward to.

But, that is not all, we are also getting a prequel series set 1200 years before the events of the series called The Witcher: Blood Origins. This will drop somewhere in 2022 and I can almost promise it will be out before the main series. The official synopsis reads “In an elven world 1,200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merge to become one – and the very first Wicher arise”. Sounds exciting. You can have a look at the trailer here for The Witcher: Blood Origin.
