Transformers: Age of Extinction Review

Transformers-4-IMAX-poster_1394643320 (432x640)Welcome to the three hour car commercial. You will see the new Corvette Stingray, Bugatti Grand, Lamborghini Aventador , and a Camaro concept car. Oh wait there is a movie here, somewhere. This is how I felt after leaving the theater. Now throw in the worst acting performance by Mark Wahlberg since his Funky Bunch days. Opps, my bad that was no act.

Yes, Walberg has give great and memorable performances but this script just makes him look pathetic. What this movie has is explosions after explosions and wait for it more explosions. In typical Michael Bay form this movie is not lacking in special effects or CGI. Is it a little too much? Maybe, but that’s what the fans come to these movies for. The movie opens in Texas five years after the Battle of Chicago. Where we meet Cade Yeager played by Mark Wahlberg (yes that’s his name). Yeager is bankrupt inventor, trouble is he’s horrible.

With a stroke of luck he stumbles upon a broken down Optimus Prime, restores him and then we are thrust into the action. This time around humans are the enemy as we come to find out the CIA and a Military Weapons advisory company are looking to eliminate all Autobots and Decepticons . What we get from this point on is chase scenes that will make you think that this franchise crossed over with The Fast and the Furious. In one particular scene you have a rally car racing and drifting through the streets while CIA suburban’s chase him, I half expected Vin Diesel to make an appearance.trans3 (370x548) (370x548)

The movie does have some high points. Mostly, if you are a fan of the franchise you will love it. It was nice to see the Dinobots get introduced but don’t expect to see too much of them. If you have seen one Transformer’s movie you have seen them all. I would suggest going to Netflix and watching the good old cartoon series from the late eighties and early nineties. Another alternative is to visit your local comic shop and pick up a Trade Paperback of Transformers from IDW Comics. With that being said the movie will still make billions and probably spinoff 5 more movies. In my opinion it’s time to shut down this franchise. If you must see it wait till the dollar theatre.
