Travis Knight’s ‘Uncharted’: Mark Wahlberg in Final Talks to Star Opposite Tom Holland

Nov 14, 2019

The ‘Uncharted’ movie is one that has been in development for a long time. The franchise is a popular video game series, but has yet to make the jump to the big screen. It is gaining more steam at the moment though, with ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ star Tom Holland set to lead. ‘Bumblebee’s Travis Knight has recently been tapped to direct. Now the cast is finally increasing, with Mark Wahlberg in talks to co-star with Holland.

Variety reports that Wahlberg is in final negotiations to take the “Sully” role, who is the mentor to Holland’s Nathan Drake. Variety also mentions that Wahlberg was up for the Nathan Drake role years ago when the project was being directed by ‘American Hustle’s David O. Russell. Wahlberg still had interest in being part of the ‘Uncharted’ in some capacity, so here he is.

This is the most steam this project has gotten in a while. It has circled many directors and many cast members. Once upon a time, Nathan Fillion would have been the perfect Nathan Drake. But this script seems to skew on the younger side, so that isn’t happening. However, if it did happen, it would look something like this:

The wonderful fan film was released last year, and give fans a taste of what an ‘Uncharted’ movie could be. These types of adventure movies always have an audience. From ‘Indiana Jones’ to ‘National Treasure,’ people looking for things is oddly compelling. Of course, ‘Uncharted’ is facing an uphill battle with it coming from a video game. The jump from video game to film hasn’t been met with a lot of success. But with a charismatic cast of Holland and Wahlberg anchoring it, maybe that will change.

Meanwhile, the screenplay is from Rafe Judkins (‘Chuck,’ ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’), along with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (‘Iron Man,’ ‘Men in Black: International’).

Filming will begin February 2020, with locations including Colombia and Berlin.

As of now, the ‘Uncharted’ movie is set to release December 18, 2020.
