Earlier today, Collider with support from Variety revealed the “short list” (actually a pretty long list) for all the actress that up for the role of Domino in the upcoming Deadpool sequel. They included Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), and Sylvia Hoeks (Overspel) Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black, John Wick 2), Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire), Eve Hewson (The Knick), Kelly Rohrbach (Baywatch) and lastly Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim, 10 Cloverfield Lane).
The initial list announcement had overwhelming fan support for Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
After her time in horror projects the actress become a nerd favorite portraying Ramona Flowers in Scott Pilgrim vs The World. The actress also gained some Oscar buzz after portraying a sobering alcoholic in 2012’s Smashed as well as this year’s physiological thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane. Her other roles include action flicks like Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, Die Hard 4 and as the leading heroine of The Thing prequel.
Winstead’s next project will be the highly anticipated third season of Fargo.
Omega Underground did a bit of digging on her social media channels and learned a few things. The actress recently started following Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds on her officially verified Twitter profile. Ryan Reynolds went onto follow the actress back recently on his official Twitter given the actress is at the top of the list of his followers. This is huge considering Ryan Reynolds is key on who shows up in his Deadpool films. He was the driving force behind making the original film for the better part of a decade, not to mention a producer on the film as well.

UPDATE: It looks like John Wick: Chapter 2 actress Ruby Rose (Orange Is The New Black) is also in the same boat as Winstead, as Ryan and Ruby both follow each other as well on Twitter. Considering Reynolds is only following around 250 accounts, it’s hard to say there isn’t a connection between the shortlist announcement.
Ruby more than likely has gone threw intense weapons and fight training for her role in the John Wick sequel, as we’ve seen the training process Keanu Reeves has undergone for the gun-fu sequences. She’s more than likely a top contender as well at this point from that one role alone, as Domino is weapons-heavy role and that background is a huge asset.

In recent months we have learned quite frequently that if an actor or director starts following each other on social media it ends up leading to announcement of their casting sooner rather than later. This happened when we at Omega Underground learned Joe Maganiello started following Ben Affleck, Zack Snyder and David Ayer the day the Deathstroke test footage debuted. Many sites were scrambling to find out who was under the famous black and orange mask but we figured out by social media activity it was Joe. We also learned Linda Louise Duan was cast as Tina Minoru in Doctor Strange after the actress followed and was followed back by co-star Benedict Wong.
Of course deals and talks can fall apart between actors and studios. However, with this new list as well as the evidence of the actors social media activity. It may look like Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ruby Rose may very well end up being our top contenders for Domino in Deadpool 2.
