Sony Pictures has hired Kelly Marcel, one of the screenwriters from the first movie, to pen the script. Marcel’s other credits include ‘Saving Mr. Banks,’ ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and the upcoming ‘Cruella.’
Marcel’s deal was a significant one, according to Variety, and she will also executive produce the film. Tom Hardy will return, as well as Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson. Harrelson (spoiler alert) will reprise his role as Cletus Kasady aka Carnage, as teased in the post credits scene of the first film.
A director has not been set yet, though Variety says the studio might look for a new filmmaker. Ruben Fleischer will be busy shooting Sony’s ‘Zombieland 2: Double Tap’ this month. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal will return as producers.
