Wonder Girl #3

Above all else, Joelle Jones’ art shined through Wonder Girl’s first two issues. Wonder Girl #3 was no exception, either. Yara Flor has a fierceness to her, yet there’s also a goofy side to her. Jones puts juxtapose those to sides at a moment where they use the bola this issue, and it felt like we were getting all of Yara at once.

There’s definitely more to learn about Yara’s personality, but that’s been Jones’ greatest strength with Wonder Girl from a storytelling perspective so far. The plot certainly progress more with Wonder Girl #3 than the last issue, but things still seemed to lag a bit.

Perhaps it has something to do with the Artemis-Cassie Sands story. As much as I love Artemis and her Mistress, I’m not invested in her story as I thought I’d be after Wonder Girl #1. I’m sure things will change once Artemis and Yara cross paths. Though, it’s unclear when that will happen.

Even with Yara, things should progress quite a bit more next issue, given how Wonder Girl #3 ended. I’m hoping we get to learn a little about why Yara is being hunted down by individuals who seem like they should be her allies.

This title still has quite a bit of potential — especially with Jones’ doing double-duty — but things need to pick up a bit on the latter half of this series.

Score: 8
