Zendaya to play Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Aug 18, 2016

According to The Wrap, Zendaya is set to play the long-time girlfriend of Peter Parker in next summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. It had been long speculated who exactly Zendaya was going to portray as Marvel definitely likes to keep their cards close to their chest. Spider-Man fans also speculated if we would even see a version of Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy in the new reboot, both of which were portrayed in previous films.

Previously, it was mentioned that Zendaya would actually be playing a character named Michelle, but not much was revealed other than she was in fact playing a “key” character in the series. Kirsten Dunst previously played the character back in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy which also starred Tobey Maguire. Looks like Marvel pulled a fast one on us.

The cast also includes Tom Holland as the title character, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” will be released on July 7, 2017.
