Bridgerton Season 5 is nearing the end of production, but Netflix has not confirmed a full filming wrap. Luke Thompson has finished his work and says Francesca and Michaela will lead the season. Benedict will still appear. Netflix plans to release the new season sometime in 2027 on Netflix globally.
What Is the Latest Bridgerton Season 5 Filming Update?
Bridgerton Season 5 is close to the end of production, but Netflix had not confirmed a full filming wrap as of October 20, 2026. Filming began on March 24, 2026, and Luke Thompson has already finished his own work. The fifth season will focus on Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling, with Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza leading the romance.
Has Bridgerton Season 5 Finished Filming, or Just Luke Thompson?
Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton, caused excitement when he spoke about the new season on This Morning. His comments sounded like production was complete, but Netflix later clarified that the whole shoot was not fully finished.
This distinction matters because a cast member finishing his scenes does not always mean every filming unit is done. Crew members were also leaving key locations, showing that production was clearly approaching its final stage.
- Luke Thompson’s update: Thompson said, “We just completed that now and it has gone well.” His wording confirms that his work on Season 5 is done.
- Netflix clarification: A Netflix representative later said Bridgerton Season 5 “has not yet fully wrapped.” That means some production work was still continuing.
- Filming timeline: Production started in March 2026 and had been running for almost seven months by late October.
- Release window: Netflix has confirmed a 2027 release, but no exact premiere date has been announced.
- Returning family: Benedict remains part of the Bridgerton family story even after his own main romance season.
Who Leads Bridgerton Season 5 After Benedict’s Story?
The biggest story change is the shift toward Francesca and Michaela. Thompson directly confirmed the new focus while also making clear that Benedict Bridgerton will still appear. The season continues the show’s pattern of moving the spotlight to another Bridgerton sibling while keeping familiar faces around.
- Main couple: Thompson said, “It will be about Francesca and Michaela.” Hannah Dodd returns as Francesca Bridgerton, while Masali Baduza plays Michaela Stirling.
- Benedict returns: Thompson added, “But obviously Benedict is still around.”
- Returning cast: Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Luke Newton, Nicola Coughlan, Claudia Jessie, Ruth Gemmell, Florence Hunt, Emma Naomi, and other familiar cast members are expected back.
- New additions: Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain, and Gemma Knight Jones are joining the fifth season, though their roles were not identified in these reports.
- Future plans: Netflix has already renewed Bridgerton for Season 6, while a Violet Bridgerton prequel is also in development.
Final Thoughts
Bridgerton Season 5 shifts the Bridgerton story to middle daughter Francesca and Michaela Stirling while keeping the wider Bridgerton household involved. Benedict Bridgerton remains part of the story, while familiar faces such as Penelope Bridgerton, Colin Bridgerton, Anthony Bridgerton, Kate Bridgerton, and Eloise Bridgerton are expected to return. Netflix plans to release the season in 2027.
