‘Counterpart’ Season 3 Not Picked Up By Starz, But Will Be Shopped Elsewhere

Feb 11, 2019

Starz has opted not to renew ‘Counterpart,’ starring J.K. Simmons, for a third season. The season 2, and now series, finale will air this Sunday, February 17.

The series is from Justin Marks, who is both creator and and executive producer. He is responsible for the live-action ‘The Jungle Book’ as well as the upcoming sequel to it.

Marks made his statement through a series of tweets on Twitter:

“Hey #counterpart fans, a bit of sad news… Starz has decided not to pick up our show for a 3rd season. It’s been an absolute dream for this team… we got to make EXACTLY the show we wanted to… perfect cast, perfect crew on 2 continents… and we’re so grateful to our network for the time we had… Thank you to everyone who made this journey so special for us. Your tweets, podcasts, and intricate conspiracy theories have made it all worthwhile. Fingers crossed that our wonderful studio, MRC, can find a way to keep the dream alive! But in the meantime, one more episode until the end of a chapter. See you Sunday!”

The reason for the lack of renewal was due to the classic low viewership.

However, the production studio MRC is currently shopping the show to other streaming platforms. So, maybe the series can live on after all!
