Aug 24, 2020

A song from the ‘New Mutants’ soundtrack has been unofficially released by popular Twitter user @NewMutantsUp just days before the film’s release. Published via their YouTube channel New Mutants Updates, the alternative pop/rock track has been composed by Tom Boddy and Pete Masitti. Though it’s not clear where in the soundtrack the song will go, given that usually song reveals pre-cinematic release tend to be for credits tracks it’s safe to assume ‘I Go Numb’ will be present somewhere around the end of the movie. The track’s release comes after it was teased yesterday in a short trailer for ‘New Mutants.’ Also included is cover art for the song that will presumably be the official art when the track becomes available for purchase.

Along with this track’s reveal, the official ‘New Mutants’ Twitter account has published a themed Spotify playlist for the movie. The playlist consists mostly of a mix of rock, post-punk, and alternative tracks spanning from the 1960s to the present. It includes tracks by various artists including but not limited to The Strokes, The Who, Foxygen, and Joy Division.

‘New Mutants’ is a movie based on the Marvel comics of the same name. Initially published in 1982, the story follows a group of young mutants against a demon bear haunting Danielle Moonstar’s nightmares. The film stars Blu Hunt (Danielle Moonstar), Anya Taylor-Joy (Illyana Rasputin), Maisie Williams (Rahne Sinclair), Charlie Heaton (Sam Guthrie), Henry Zaga (Roberto da Costa), and Alice Braga (Dr. Reyes). The film was first announced in 2017 but faced many release delays. Finally, the release date was set for August 28th, and during Comic-Con@Home the ‘New Mutants’ panel released the first few minutes of the movie. It seems finally ‘New Mutants’ will meet the release that’s been set, though it’s unclear when the movie might become available in areas where cinemas can’t yet open due to ongoing COVID-19 social distancing restrictions.
