Our Report of Disney Developing ‘Pirates 6’ Confirmed – ‘Deadpool’ Screenwriters In Early Talks For Possible Reboot

Oct 23, 2018

Back in August, Omega Underground first reported that Walt Disney Pictures was developing a sixth Pirates of The Caribbean film. Even suggesting it might be a good time to replace Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow with a new lead character.

Well, Deadline now reports that Disney is indeed developing Pirates 6 with Deadpool screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese in talks to pen the script, calling the project a “reboot”.

Disney is exploring a reboot of its billion dollar Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The studio has met with the writing team of Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and they are in early talks to write the script.

While we originally had a different creative team pegged for the project over the summer (creative teams can change in development phases) it does look like they’re trying something new, which isn’t hard to see considering that Johnny Depp’s presence within the franchise becomes increasingly questionable with each new hiccup from him.

I’ll actually be very shocked if they actually made a legitimate reboot and this isn’t just a way to have Depp scrubbed from future films. Interesting enough, also in August we suggested the sixth film possibly focus on new in park character Redd, who is now part of the ride at the Disney parks.

Production and release dates are currently unknown, but we had assumed that filming could begin as early as 2020.
